A page to update the group on progress of the 'Development and Progression of Digital Skills' work.

Firstly, thanks to everyone who has contributed to the thinking behind this piece of work so far.

I have compiled a first draft of digital skills which relate to current global, national and local thinking. This draft also takes account of Blooms' Taxonomy, using the work of Andrew Churches' Digital Taxonomy.

Rationale

Digital skills fall into 4 broad areas.
These are:
  • Being Informed - get, manage, organise and store information
  • Being Connected - networking, collaborating and sharing
  • Being Creative - make, invert, design and recreate
  • Being Technical - understanding how 'stuff' works, connects etc...

Underpinning all of this is Safety.

For each of the 4 areas it is planned to provide a breakdown of the Digital Skills appropriate to each level of CfE with suggested / examples of useful tools.

For example..

Be Informed - Level 1 - download .pdf
TCH 1-03a *
As I extend and enhance my knowledge of features of various types of software, including those which help find, organise, manage and access information, I can apply what I learn in different situations.
TCH 1-03b *
I can access, retrieve and use information from electronic sources to support, enrich or extend learning in different contexts.
TCH 1-04b *
I can create, capture and manipulate sounds, text and images to communicate experiences, ideas and information in creative and engaging ways.

  • Searching
  1. I can enter a key word or phrase into Google Search box Tools - Google
  • Recording
  1. I can write to a Blog Tools - Glow ; Edublogs
  • Categorising

  • Uploading

  • Editing

It is not my intention at this time to produce a skills set for the Early Level as the experiences and outcomes clearly identify play and exploration to be key elements of learning.
Also I feel that by Level 4, if the skills development and progression is in place over the previous 3 levels, pupils will be well placed to identify and take forward their own skillls development in response to their own needs.
(I am, of course, willing to be guided on this!)

The following documents are a first draft and open for consultation....
